Firsties!
So…this is where I’ll actually blog about the one thing I can not do without. No, not companionship, not family, not sex or food either (well, those last two are pretty close to being necessary).
No, I’m talking about the internet, and all things related.
Since even before my first computer, I was intrigued by the keyboard. No, not the piano keyboard. The typing keyboard, QWERTY, to you and I.
My first exposure to a computer was in grade school. I believe it was the 4th or 5th grade when I got my hands on a Commodore PET. The first computer I ever owned was a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A. It came with the speech synthesizer and Parsec. Back then I thought to myself, “I’ll be a computer programmer”. That was until I became almost instantly disenfranchised with that idea due to the lovely metal chassis the 4A had which would take a static hit every time I’d get up from the computer and come back and touch it. It would reset as soon as I’d touch it, blasting away all the many lines of code I had transcribed from issues of the 99’er.
Fast forward to 1992 when I’d buy my first PC. A IBM PS/1 that came complete with a 13” mono VGA monitor and a 2400 baud modem. It came with software I had never heard of before called “America Online”. If I knew then what I knew now about AOL, I’d be a much richer person.
When that wasn’t good enough, I sold that computer to a friend and bought my first ‘Real’ PC, in my mind anyway. Rocking out with a 14” COLOR VGA monitor and a 24 pin COLOR dot matrix printer. That was awesomeness right there!
I’ll spare the details regarding any other computer since then, as I’ve owned just about every piece of computer technology since that time. I had a 5 year career working for RadioShack, spending 4 of those years as a store manager and district PC know-it-all. I left that job to pursue a career in IT technical support, which I had been in up until 2009 when I left my last job to start a web & graphic design business; C3Designs.
Anyway, since my first online experiences, I’ve been obsessed with technology and being online, even before there was a ‘internet’. It’s only gotten worse since then. With the advent of Social Media, I’ve pretty much found myself in front of a computer, almost every waking moment, almost every single day; esp. since I’ve had access to a laptop.
I’ve just recently joined with a few people in Grand Rapids, MI who share my love of Social Media to start a local chapter of the Social Media Club, an internationally recognized organization that was formed to allow others who also love Social Media get together and talk about it.
It’s my goal with this blog, to speak on the subjects of technology and Social Media.
Here goes something.
